Mount Pleasant is situated 55 kms north-east of Adelaide, and now a part of The Barossa Council area.
There were people traversing the region from as early as 1839, and settlement began here from 1842 when three families took up land in the area – James Phillis with his family, Henry Bushell and his wife, Charlotte (nee Phillis, sister to James), and Henry Giles and his wife, Mary Ann (nee Tippett).
